Ways of working with Aboriginal people (part one and two) (WA)

Event Details

  • These courses are designed for workers in the Perth metropolitan region of Western Australia (WA) who have Aboriginal clients, individuals and families who may be experiencing issues with substance use.

The courses form part of the Strong spirit strong mind training program, which aims to raise awareness of alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues among Aboriginal people, families and communities.

Part one of the course will explore the impact that history has had on AOD use in the community, and provides broad intervention frameworks based on empowerment principles. Part two of the course builds on culturally secure concepts and models, and introduces resources to respond to Aboriginal AOD use. Please note that part two can only be attended by people who have first completed part one.

Aboriginal AOD workers are particularly encouraged to attend. Attendance at the event is free, however registration is essential.
