Here at HealthInfonet we did a bit of a search and found some courses  that are specifically tailored for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid – MHFA
    http://www.mhfa.com.au/cms/atsi/
The Mental Health First Aid course provides initial strategies for working with a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health first aid instructor training course – MHFA
    http://www.mhfa.com.au/cms/instructor-training-information/
The first aid instructor training course is targeted for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who meet the essential selection criteria and have an interest in helping other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with mental illnesses.

Have you attended any of these courses/training? Or have you been involved in different courses? Share your experiences, opinions and thoughts on what you have participated in!

Also, today is Mental Health Day! Take the opportunity to yarn about mental illness and be part of breaking down stigma!

Hope you’re having a top day!

Hello Substance Use yarning place members!

This week we want to discuss; what training is available to help AOD workers feel more able to deal with comorbidity? Was the training provided through your employer or did you seek for additional training on your own? Did you find the information useful and was there any Indigenous-specific content included?

Share your experiences, thoughts and opinions. We want to know what is happening out in the community!
